selectedindexchanged won't fire when I have an ascx on page

Can anyone shed light on this situation.

I have dropdownlists that won't fire when I select an item when there is a
webcontrol on the page. When I remove all the webcontrols, the dropdownlist
works just fine. This is a big pain and I am hoping someone could help me
out.

Oops, I mean usercontrols not webcontrols
