vhdl toolkit without micro$oft?

Hello everybody

I was wondering if anyone knows of any vhdl toolkits for unix? I'm
currently operating a macintosh and a freeBSD machine, and i don't have
a windows box. I can't find any simulators or decent synthesis tools on
the net, and those i could find where poorly programmed or not finished
yet. Any help would be appreciated.

Of course, they are there. These are even THE tools that pioneered
the technology (such as Synopsys). However, they are very likely
not something for your budget.

Model Technology offers its VHDL simulator also for Linux. They have
also a limited free edition. You should check it out.
However, with your Macintosh you have probably bad cards. Today, there
are more and more comercial tools available for Linux, but mostly
only for x86-Linux.

Regards,
Mario

You could run emacs vhdl-mode for design entry.

For sim and synth you would have to either
do a lot of work yourself or load linux.

As people mentioned, many commercial tools are available for x86-Linux.
x86-FreeBSD should be able to run Linux binaries, but I don't know
if it will work or if it is difficult to set up.

Free as freedom VHDL simulators:
- Savant
- GHDL
- FreeHDL
(The last one was the least mature when I last time checked)

Free as beer VHDL simulators (x86-Linux binary):
- Simili/Symphony (at least used to be free, haven't checked for a while)

I don't know any free synthesis programs. If other people
do, I'd like to know too.
