James Edward Gray II

Just wanted to share a quick tip on a good read. My review of "Holub
on Patterns" is currently on Slashdot here:

http://books.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/11/16/
1919215&tid=192&tid=156&tid=6

You can read the review if you want more details, but the short story
is that the book has fantastic coverage of Design Patterns and as such
is a great boon to anyone regularly doing object-oriented design and
programming.

Many recent posts to this list (about data encapsulation, singletons,
etc.) are touched on or thoroughly covered within these pages.

The books language is Java, but if you can suffer through that you'll
probably enjoy the effort he goes through to swing Java closer to Ruby.
While reading the book, I couldn't help but recognize how he was
crying out for Duck Typing though I'm not even sure he's familiar with
the term.

A small portion of the knowledge is tightly coupled with Java, but
largely, the patterns are useful knowledge in Ruby as well.

Just wanted to share, for people who enjoy this sort of book.
