I want to convert Outlook data files to MBOX manually

I am not able to decide what to do. I've read many blogs that say to:

1. Import Outlook data to Gmail & then use Google Takeout to download the emails as MBOX.
2. Import Outlook files to Thunderbird and then export the emails as MBOX.

But, I didn't understand how to do it. For Eg. Method 1 saying importing PST to Gmail. I read in one place to use "Gmail Import" to import outlook mails directly in gmail and in other it's written to configure Outlook with Gmail and then transfer.

Which one is the best, shortest and effective? Plz try to explain in clear steps and procedure.
