Hi,

I am a programmer now doing research into programmer's mood and their
performance. Most of the programmer's might agree with the statment
that 'Yes, Programmer's performance is affected from their mood'. But
is this really true? To find out, I am doing an experiment on this. If
you want to take this test please visit this URL.

If you want results of the research at the end or if you want to win a
£20 amazon vouchers please enter your email address at the results
page and press save button.
If you want to know about me and want to query me, you can find my
email address and website at the above URL at 'first page'

Hi,

I don't believe that your survey is very good. I went to your site
only to find out that it requires windows media play and internet
explorer 6 both of which do not run on my operating system.

If you are doing a survey for programmers of multiple languages all of
which can be used on platforms other then windows then you should have
a platform neutral way of getting the data other wise it is only
windows programmers that can participate.

you are instantly ignoring 4 other operating systems and thats just
off the top of my head if I thought about it I am sure I could come up
with more.

Agreed.

If you think hard enough you will probably find dozens :). Considering
Java is X-Platform you would particularly expect the site to work
anywhere with any browser.

The site should consider an alternative.

You are right, but not completely. I am not ignoring the languages but
platform. I am using four different languages including Java, C#,
VB.NET and C/C++. All of them can be used now on any platform. This
test also support FireFox and Mozilla and they are also not platform
independent. However it is possible that WMP might not work their, but
there is WMP available for Linux now. Visit
http://www.activewin.com/awin/comments.asp?HeadlineIndex=22712&Group=1.
Still I think this is not mature. I will use real player instead of WMP
and will update my site. Hopefully all of your questions are answered.
If you have some, please do give a comment.

For al practical purposes C# and VB.NET don't run on any platform. This
is proprietary Windows-only technology. Or did Mono suddenly became
ready for prime time? Or do you want to claim that you use these
languages on your server side? No one cares about what you run on your
server. The comments you got are about the experience on the client side.
This

The underlying protocols (HTTP + HTML) should be. Unless you decide to
butcher them and use proprietary Windows-only features.

Now? You are quoting a two year old unconfirmed report of a porting
activity which never came to light. There once was a very unstable port
of a very old WMP for some Unix systems like Solaris (AFAIR not Linux).
But many people rather prefer to drop dead than to use that one (more
than once, at least).

There are obscure hacks to get proprietary Windows decoders running (or
crashing) under some Linux media players. But that still leaves out
every other OS on the planet, including even any Linux not running on an
x86 architecture.

I think you have some learning ahead of you, regarding of how to do
serious on-line surveys. Why do you think Real Player is much better?
You have apparently no idea about all the different platforms out there.

Use standard protocols and data formats if you want to increase your
chance of reaching a broader audience. Use proprietary formats if you
only want to address a particular group. But using proprietary formats
and claiming they work on any platform will not cut it.

Oh, and since no one has commented on it now, I'll do it. It is
considered rather rude to use Usenet discussion groups for advertising a
survey.
