i think you are correct - but this is where my ignorance comes in - who are
these keyboard users (a serious question) and why cant/dont they use a
mouse?

Just an example: someone with Parkinson.
There's plenty of people with motoric problems that make using a
keyboard easier than using a mouse.

And personally, I don't like to have to reach for the mouse all
the time, keyboard shortcuts are often much quicker.

If a keyboard user is someone who uses the keyboard as much as possible to
do things conveniently, then that is me. Scrolling up and down I prefer to
use page up and page down and even make key commands and scripts to enable
me to do regular things via keyboard. But it is often more convenient to use
a mouse. So, why? In my case, repetitive strain nuisances in my tendons...
hitting a key is less complex. It may be that others have more severe
reasons to restrict themselves to keyboards or other devices. And overflow
scroll bars probably do not work well without a mouse... This is certainly a
consideration but there may be overriding ones in favour (tho I am believing
without personal evidence that these things break even apart from this
consideration... pity)

My laptop's quite friendly for pointing as laptops go, as it has both a
pointing nipple and a touchpad, but it's still not as nice as the 4-button
trackballs on my desktops.

So if I'm using my laptop, I prefer to use the keyboard for most purposes.

I don't think I have one!

I am mostly a keyboard user. I have poor manual dexterity, so I hardly
ever use the mouse.

Bare what you wish in mind, but please don't bare anything in reality.
