[Announce] JEWL 1.2

J

John English

JEWL (John English's Window Library) is a Java class library designed
for educational use. It is primarily aimed at novices learning Java as
a first language. It enables reasonably sophisticated GUI applications
to be built with a minimum of effort, and can be used from the "Hello
world" stage onwards.

Because of this, JEWL is a deliberately simple system which is intended
to allow beginners to build GUI-based applications in Java without
tears. It hides much of the complexity of the underlying Swing model,
and its use involves no "advanced" language concepts. It only provides
a limited subset of the facilities that Swing provides and is far less
customisable and flexible. However, its facilities are sufficient for
most applications. It provides frames and dialogs, panels and tabbed
panels, buttons, labels, text fields (including password fields and
validated integer and double fields), checkboxes, radiobuttons,
listboxes, comboboxes, memos (text areas), menus and menu items,
drawing canvases, and a selection of standard dialogs for choosing
files, fonts and colours.

JEWL 1.2 is now available under the terms of the GNU General Public
License, and can be downloaded from
http://www.it.bton.ac.uk/staff/je/java/jewl/
The download (884K) includes a JAR file, full source code, example
programs, a tutorial and Javadoc documentation.

Enjoy!
