aspnet_wp dies and brings down ReportingServicesService

Dmitry Polyakovsky

We are not sure exactly what is causing it and any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. The largest reports we are trying to pull up have about 100,000 rows with about 10 columns (mostly int, some varchar 100). Only 4 testers are using the system. The database resides on a different server (same hardware and OS, SQL 2K SP3a) and it runs just fine. ReportingServicesService.exe is set to restart after 1 minute so it comes up and restarts aspnet_wp.

Here is our SQL Reporting Server:
3 GHz proc, 4 GB RAM
Win 2K Server SP4
..NET Framework 1.1 SP1
SQL Reporting Services SP2

Here is what I see in Event Viewer:

Source ASP.NET 1.1.4322.0
Description: aspnet_wp.exe (PID: 4996) stopped unexpectedly. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Source Report Server
Description The description for Event ID ( 124 ) in Source ( Report Server ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: The event log file is corrupt..

Here are the errors that appear in the browser:

Error
The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. The logon failed. (rsReportServerDatabaseLogonFailed) Get Online Help
The RPC server is not listening.

Server Error in '/ReportServer' Application.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.
Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".
<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="Off"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>
Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.
<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>
