boost library - thread question

if a thread'd join() is called, the caller blocked and wait for the
thead to finish and detached automatically.

So when we need to use detach()?

I can not imagin a scenario to use the detach(). Also, if detach() is
called, does it wait for thread to finish or like interrup to at
interrupt points?
