Concurrency, Performance Modeling, Rinda and CiteULike

I have just discovered CiteULike. It's sort of a del.icio.us for
academics, and it collects a web-based library of academic papers. My
URL there is http://www.citeulike.org/user/znmeb/. What I'm currently
doing is collecting some of my favorite papers on performance modeling.

In the process of doing that, I stumbled on a number of papers involving
Linda-based techniques for distributed computing. I haven't fully traced
out the tree yet or read many of the papers, but it seems to me, since
Ruby already has Rinda, and since there's quite a bit of both
theoretical and practical "equipment" available, that this collection
might prove useful to some folks here. The tag is "linda", and I'll be
exploring it further over the next few days and weeks.

As a side note, I'm glad I found this, because I've got a couple gbytes
of PDFs stored on my hard drive, another collection at work, and I need
some kind of indexing mechanism. As another side note, how efficient
are the current implementations of Rinda and dRB?

solution for indexing PDF documents?

The best thing I found when I was playing with tools was Namazu. There
are quite a few other tools that will do the same thing Namazu does, but
it seemed to be pre-configured for things like Word and PDF, while the
other tools needed a lot of configuration/setup. I may be wrong about
that; if someone wants to defend their favorite other tool, please feel
free.

BTW, Acroread does a decent job of *searching* PDFs, but it's beastly
slow on Linux and only does PDFs -- not Word docs.
