File and directory handling and management.

Hi All,

I'm interested in any gems and/or established "best practices" for
managing files and directories across platforms. Are there any
"special folder items" (or gems that handle them) in ruby? For
instance, it would be nice to be able to say:

my_dir = os_temp_folder()

I'm looking for *anything* and *everything* related to this aspect of
file and directory management. Links, info, suggestions are welcome.
