help... Active Service Pages... multiple restarts

w2k server... after rebooting the event viewer/application log shows multiple
restarts of Active Server Pages and they continue to build in memory as each
start produces a IWAM_SERVERNAME in the task manager.

there might be 10 - 20 starts without a stop... when I restart iis services it
takes a long time as each started service is stopped and the associated
IWAM_SERVERNAME is closed.

this seems to be something new and when checking other w2k servers it is
unusual.

anybody have any ideas what is causing this?

Hi Aaron...

I double checked and all sites are set to medium isolation. I just rebooted
after 23 consecutive Active Server Pages starts and NO stops over a 24 hour
period. It is already back up to 15 starts and no stops.

I tried Stop on one of the sites but no Application Event message for that.

What am I missing?

I don't understand... the sites are starting but not stopping? So is each
site starting exactly once, and that's it (normal), or is each site starting
multiple times? If it is starting multiple times, but it is not stopping,
what is the symptom (other than event log entries)?

as of now no stops and 45 starts and counting.

I first noticed it in task manager where it seems that each "start" produces a
new pid/dllhost.dll/iwam_servername. 9 sites each having 3 - 4 folders
containing global.asa... the starts seem to be related to the first hit on
these.

Under a suggestion i checked the isolation and sure nuff... several sites were
set to high... I set them to medium.. rebooted... no help.

So.. now i am in the process of deleting and re-establishing each site in iis
manager... big job but it seems to get rid of the multiple
pid/dllhost.dll/iwam_servername.

Anything you can add will sure be appreciated.

thanx,

yabba
