Limit client area

Maybe the wrong NG. Bear with me. I can't find an answer, possibly because I
don't know (how to phrase) the question.

A browser gets data from my server. Normally all the data fits in an area of
say 1000x600 px. Scrollbars are not visible unless the user reduces the
window size. To print data, a large table is filled, needing say 1000x10.000
px. No problem so far. But all subsequent small pages that the server sends
will display with scrollbars as if the browser (IE as well as FF) assumes
that the large table must be fitted as well. The size of the canvas has
increased as it were.

Is there a way to instruct the browser about appropriate sizes for the
client area/canvas?
Thanks in advance for any suggestion,
Tom

Sounds like a bad idea. Web browsers do not handle large tables well. In
particular, I know that an earlier version of Internet Explorer simply
shut
down when the table had too many rows. You should generate a PDF document
instead.
....
(You are asking the wrong question. You should want to find out why there
are scrollbars, so that you can cure the disease instead of treating the
symptoms.)

Ctrl+P is tricky, with or without scrollbars. Ctrl+C (a html table) for
pasting in Excel works as intended. That's how I came to strand in this
approach.
I take your suggestion of a PDF very seriously.
Thank you for a useful answer to a vague question.
