Log Scanner tool/api

I have a number of logs which I need to periodically scan for various
    messages of interest.

I'm looking for a tool or java API which lets me configure the
message(s) I want to find and
the logs that are to be searched ...

Anyone familiar with such an API or tool ....I could keep using my
    favorite editor for this but
it is getting old now that I have nearly a dozen logs to scan ...

Ideally, I'd like to have an API that I could fold into a JSP so I
could off-load the log scanning task
    to a non-developer.

    Thanks,

    Rod
