log4j

I am starting to use/recommend log4j as our default logging tool and I
have spoken with many collegues, but I was wondering what is the best
implementation?

Do you write a wrapper around the logger or just something like this
in every class.

thanks for any help

package logging;

import org.apache.log4j.Logger;
import org.apache.log4j.PropertyConfigurator;

public class TestLog {

static Logger logger = Logger.getLogger( TestLog.class );

public static void main( String [] args ) {

PropertyConfigurator.configure( "loginfo.properties" );

logger.info( "STARTING APP" );
logger.debug( "initializing cntr" );
logger.info( "ENDING APP" );

}

}

I just have a line like the above for every class. That way I can
change the logging level per class in the log.properties file. Note
that the doc for log4j says that is it is more efficient to do:

if(logger.isDebugEnabled())
logger.debug ( ... );
