.net component advice: pdf, listserves, etc?

We have a bit of a budget surplus and we've been asked if there are any
components we'd like to get for some upcoming projects.

We've been needing a couple and was wondering if anyone had any advice:

- listserv

We'd like to find an application that, ideally, has some .net hooks that
would allow us to set up and manage 'notify' lists. Ie, if X is updated,
then send a notice to group y. Ideally, the product would manage the subbing
and unsubbing of users and we could call various functions via .net

- PDF creation

We've been using ActivePDF in the past and have had nothing but trouble with
it. We'd like a tool that, upon upload of a document to the server, would
convert it to PDF.

If anyone has any advice on the above two in terms of products to take a
look at, it would be appreciated!

Let me guess. You work for the government, right?

Yep.

But having worked in the private sector as well, I can say that there's as
much, if not more beuracracy and wasteful spending on that side of the
aisle. ;o)

Have you checked whether Adobe has a .Net component for working with PDFs?

I would take look at WSS for managing lists and subscriptions, and its
fully extendable with .net

Actually I've used activePDF and it was OK, I created a .NET service to
process the conversions and used asp.net to accept jobs, thus removing the
load from the asp process.
