Apache POI seems to be a dead project. I stopped using it because of
memory issues. Try JXL.

http://poi.apache.org/ looks alive to me (releases in October
and December).

I think they were being bogged down by the work of reverse
engineering the formats, but after MS released the format
specifications, then things must have become a lot easier.
I stopped using it because of
memory issues. Try JXL.

I have never tried that one.
