REQ: How do I execute .exe file from HTML file?

I created a HTML file on my XP machine that has a command in it to
execute a .exe file. It works just fine on the XP machine.

I put the HTML file plus the .exe file on a CD that I made autostart,
and it works just fine on the XP machine.

Now I tried the same CD on my W98 machine and I get an error window
saying the .exe file of type application x/msdownload and Netscape
doesn't know what to do with it..

An extract of the HTML command line is:

<tr>
<td valign="top"><img src="W98-Updates_files/blt-black5x12.gif"
height="5" width="12" vspace="5"></td>
</tr>

<td valign="top" class="bodytext"><b>
<a href="ABCDE.EXE">ABCDE Update</a></b></td>
</tr>

<tr>
<td valign="top"></td>
<td>This update executes ABCDE.</td>
</tr>

What am I missing?

Thanks

Create an active X control and run it from there.

Aw gee... I looked at ActiveX a little and find it confusing at best.
Is this my only choice? After all, all I want to do is execute a .exe
file. Maybe I am stupid.

Thanks

use a link to a batch file in your web page "abcd.bat" in the batch fil
write:
%cddrv%abcd.exe

This should fix your problem

Do you realize that you are not posting to a webiste forum when you use this
site. They are passing your posts on to the usenet newsgroup
alt.html

alt.html is a publicly available newsgroup. The website you are
using is stealing its content directly from there and pretending that it is
their own. There is no original material at all on the website you are
looking at now. It is all coming directly from usenet.

I suggest you obtain a newsreader and visit us at news://alt.html

People will listen to you if you do. We are all starting to ignore any post
