Search Engine Submission?

Guest

Hey guys....

I want to get visitors to my site and I'd like to submit it to some search
engines. Does anyone know the name of a good company for this?

I don't want to do a search and pick the company that "looks" like the best
without really having any references.....

Thanks,
Eric

I'm replying to my own message....dork, I know....

How can I try to get the right words shown at the beginning of my search
engine submission? The words the people will see when they see my link on
Google or Yahoo or whatever?

Thanks,

The description meta tag was created for this purpose, but since it was/is
often abused and doesn't contain all the info the whole page does, it's at
best ignored by search engines.

Don't know about Yahoo; Google just shows the part of content that it thinks
is the most relevant to the search criteria.

Put those words in the very beginning of your page. This will show up if you
search for your domain name/address. If anyone searches for words that occur
in the text of your page and your page is among the hits, then an excerpt of
that text is shown as the description of that page.
Hope this helps...

And you wouldn't beleive how much technology it takes to do this. Google
effectively stores the whole of the Internet in RAM

Er, I don't think it does. Mebbe a teensy portion of it, but that's
all. Or were you being sarky and I missed it?

Use them in your title, level 1 heading, at the start of your
page, and in the meta description tag.

Google also uses a brief part of the description associated with
your site by an existing listing in http://dmoz.org (not sure how
often Google updates there data though).
