swing lockup on some systems

Has anyone had any problems using swing under 1.4.2_? with certain hardware
configurations ?

I am seeing this on a certain system which is running Win2K, as soon as a
JApplet is invoked, it seizes up - and if I go to open the Java Console, the
whole system freezes. This, on a system which appears to have no problems or
conflicts, and am wondering if anyone else has experienced such, and what
it;s resolution may have been.
