how to open a XML-File with an application?

Hi,

how can i open a XML-File with an other application then the browser.

I have a XML file called test.axl. When i create a link to this file the
browser opens it when clicking this link.

But I would like to open this axl-file with a special application
written by myself. How can i force the IE to open the axl-file with my
own application?

It seems to me that the browser looks into the file, recognizes it as an
xml-file and opens it direct, without looking to the file-settings of
the Windows-Explorer.

thanks
Helmut

How can "you" open it with a different application or how can all
visitors?

If just you, then open an explorer window, then in the menu:

Tools->Folder Options->File Types. Find the type of file you want in
the list, and tell it what aplication to useto open it.

My application creates a set of XML-files as a result of a data
evaluation. I use the IE to open a XML-file and show an overview of the
result to the user. In this overview there are a lot of links to
different AXL-files which are created. It is possible to open the
AXL-files with the IE to show a short description of the evaluation
result, but it is also possible to open the AXL-files with my own
application to show the evaluated data together with the evaluation result.

I would like to create two different kinds of links: One that opens the
AXL-file in the IE and an other that opens the same AXL-file with my own
application. At the moment the user has to navigate to the AXL-file with
the Windows-Explorer and has to double click on the file to open it with
my application. This is not very user-fiendly.

So again my question: How to create a link to a AXL-file which opens it
with my own application?

regards
Helmut
