IE8--A built-in debugger was not enough

I'm pleased to see this particular effort fumbling. Imagine your are
a blind user trying to search a site that has been Shadraq'ed.

Resig can't use a debugger either:

Well, that is not news. Perhaps the *endless* futility is finally
starting to make an impression.

That's what I'm talking about.

Looks like the whole thing is falling apart. Not soon enough, though.
I'm tired of bumping into bad scripting on the web, what happened to
learning the language before starting to write useless code?

That might be the best post I've read all week. :)

Dunno. I suppose by typing an 'alert("Hello!")' somewhere in ones
markup, people assume that they now have mastered JS (which wasn't - in
their perception - a "real" programming language anyway). It then turns
out, that it is not *that* easy, and it is blamed onto "browser
inconsistencies". That's when the libraries kick in... And JS is no
longer needed.

It is ironic that in many of the discussions documented, the
proceedings could have benefited greatly from the insertion of an
alert (or using a debugger.)

This is the usual cite for the mysterious "Invalid Argument" error in
IE8:

if ( set )
elem[ name ] = value;

return elem[ name ];

Yes, the alert method could definitely help here. And, as we know,
this issue is hardly a mystery.
It then turns
out, that it is not *that* easy, and it is blamed onto "browser
inconsistencies". That's when the libraries kick in... And JS is no
longer needed.

And at this point there's virtually no such thing as browser
inconsistencies with regard to Javascript. Definitely not if you
stipulate only the very latest browsers. The only configuration
possibilities are on and off.

The contrary opinion says Javascript was a "buggy mess" until around
2005 when Ajax and "libraries" like Prototype changed everything.
Well, they got it sort of half right and backwards. Virtually every
one of those breathless articles about "Unobtrusive Javascript",
Web2.0, RIA, etc. on sites like Ajaxian and A List Apart is bereft of
relevance at this time. The "discussions" held at the bottom of each
serve only as a reminder that a little bit of ignorance can waste a
lot of time. What was the final consensus on the ultimate answer for
all Javascript problems? jQuery 1.3. I rest my case (hold the
applause.)

Yes. Learning the language first and then writing useless code seems
like the sensible approach! ;-)

Did you learn your native language before you started speaking, or did
you start off with typical baby "Goo gaa" and so on?

You aren't supposed to teach baby talk to infants. It takes them that
much longer to learn real words and phrases.
If I applied the same rule to English, I would be silent my entire life.

In some cases, that would be a blessing.
