TCP Socket login handling. Newbie

Pardon my slack,

I've got some sources for a TCP server application. It builds. I would
like to add simple telnet style user/password authentication. I've
figured out where in the sources to put the loop but... while I can
read C, I don't write it very well.

So I'm looking for an example code snippet to use for a login loop.
Any help appreciated!
