Convert site from FP to DW

John Brandt

I am in the process of starting to convert a website designed in
FrontPage to Dreamweaver. I have a lot of experience with FP, but have
avoided using all of the various eye candy toys it comes with (e.g.,
extensions, shared borders, etc.). It looks like this site, which was
on a server with FP extensions and now is on a server without - is
functioning, but I want to create a clean design and remove the FP
glitter stuff. The client wants to use Contribute to allow the local
staff to make updates after the redesign is complete.

Being relatively new to DW, it there some kind of a tutorial or free
advice on making the conversion? Will DW simply delete the FP stuff or
will I have to go in and do that manually?

I am considering just starting from scratch, but the previous web
designer built many, many pages and it will take some time to do.

Oh, and did I mention I am doing this as a pro-bono job for a very
small non-profit organization? Quick and cheap are operant words here.

Any help welcome.

Thanks

HTML is HTML, regardless of what tool is used to author it.

Open the pages in Dreamweaver and go. That simple.

Open the pages in Dreamweaver and go. That simple.

It is a little more complex than that. As noted, there are a
significant number of FP gliztware components including MS Borders and
Java applets. In addition, there is no doctype info and lots of hookey
meta stuff.

I ran about four pages through HTML validation and they all failed
with 20 or more errors.

I think i have answered my own question. Start from scratch and build
a new site with the current content.

What you are trying to say is that you are going to remove the extra
stuff front page puts in an HTML file.

Might be something out there but probably not what you are hoping for.

Probably the best idea.

Sadly, they may also be unreachable words too...

No, you really don't have to start over, but that may be the only way to
eliminate the MS crap.

And as for errors, try running it after using Dreamweaver - you'll get
just as many. Dreamweaver just adds different crap.

Learn HTML and get it right the first time.
