Default scrollbar displayed

hi all,
i am creating a html based web application. i have a big table on the
main page taking up all the space. sometimes the page needs to be
scrolled due to the length of the table. however when the table is
shorter and no scrolling is needed, a little bit of blank space is
displaye on the right hand side indicating the absent scrollbar.
any ideas on how to remove it.
