drop down menu

You said he boasted it, but I haven't read such a statement from Richard
in this thread. If it was in another thread, you'll have to point out the
post (by message id) as I'm not going to search for it.

It's up to you. Yer rf is here - will he deny it?

Here is the relevant portion of my post earlier in this thread (which aa has

You cannot make a decent menu with just classic HTML.

Oh yes I can. And what is "classic" HTML? As opposed to [some other sort of]

I leave you to draw your own conclusions about my "boasting" :)

How one can interpret "Oh yes I can" other then boasting? Especially when
this is loudly declared over thewhole Forum about doing something
impossible?
Regading what is "classic" HTML - it clear from the context that it was
meant HTML without Javascript as it came in reply to your statement that
Javascript should not be used in menus

BTW, where is that menu you boasted ...sorry, you said you can do?

Sorry for the ****-up,

No problem. I just didn't want to leave Toby in the dark as to what you
where proposing, as the inline execution of function expressions is not
a well-known javascript pattern (at least outside of c.l.js) ant it
might not have been obvious that it was the call to the function
expression that was missing.

As it happens I have been working on a drop-down navigation script
recently. It is not quite finished yet, and I probably won't get much
time to work on it for a week or two, but it is mostly working and I
thought I would upload a version as nobody has managed to post a link to
a script of that type that demonstrates the avoidability of the
javascript dependency:-

Quite nice, but it does seem to take a long time to

Yes, and most noticeable on Opera because it re-draws the display while
the process is going on (most other browsers, at worst, show a before
and after view). I doubt that I can do much to speed up that process as
such (and retain the dynamic layout which was a large part of the point
of the exercise), though I might be able to produce the illusion of
faster loading by toggling the UL's display property to none before
re-arranging the DOM tree.

Obviously it is less noticeable when there are less ULs to transform,
but with less ULs there is much less point to that type of navigation.

Richard.

Don't they have classic HTML shows where you can check out the old
webpages, look under the hood, talk to the hairy old men who are
maintaining them?

Hey, now! Some of us hairy old men may, although balding, have more under
the hood than you think.

Thanks, Edwin. Been incommunicado for the last year or so and forgot

Ah, yes, the redoubtable Mr. f. (I'd call you r but that sounds too much
like a dangling proposition.) Nevertheless, it is rather contentious to
again see your diminutive moniker and wit.

What is wrong with the following sentence?

<quote>
Little girl, would you like to come upstairs to look at my etchings?
</quote>

One should never end a sentence with a proposition.

It is just like bicycles. You have never forgotten how to cycle. ;-)

It depends on how you looked at it.
For your wallet it's a blessing, because it didn't cost a penny.
On the other hand. It's also a comeuppance, because you can't contact
your friend or surfing the net.

Actually, the true erogenous conundrum is that a sheila shouldn't have to
be *asked* in the first place. That's why guys have fingers. (-Er, for
snapping, I mean.)

My bike's seat was actually too small. I'm sure you can guess what that
meant...

Talk about being broke! I even had to conserve cigarettes.
Actually, my phone's just a hair over $20/mo, and my Isp is 8 so that
isn't too bad. Hell, in my young-and-foolish days I used to waste more
than that in 1 night on a single broad! (-or married, whatever...)

What kind of newsgroup is this?
A group to make fun of someone or a group that really tries to help
someone who's trying to figure something out?

well, you really don't need to take anything so personally. Incidentally,
this ng is among the best i've read and posted to as far as the help to
noise ratio goes. Take a look at comp.os.linux.advocacy if you need
clarification.

Also, all of the responses provided are from UNPAID VOLUNTEERS. No one
owes you anything, so chill out a bit.

Also, also, you probably didn't read my original response, which was
please, for the love of all things good and beautiful, don't use spaces in
URLS!!!

Also, also, also, most of the other responses to your OP were good,
well-thought out and concise responses. What's the problem, K?
