    JavaScript: The Definitive Guide, 4th Edition By David Flanagan
    ISBN:0-596-00048-0 (Also by David Flanagan: JavaScript Pocket
    Reference, 2nd Edition. ISBN 0-596-00411-7 for language and API
    reference alone).

    That said...

    "Professional JavaScript for Web Developers" by Nicholas C. Zakas is
    the only good book on JavaScript ever written. It covers everything
    from the basics, to the history, to Ajax to WSDL. It covers it all.

    The dude's site is at http://www.nczonline.net/, he's a good writer.
    Check out his new book on Ajax too.
