hiding windows

I am start a Windows executable (server) from a java client using the
RunTime class. The server minimizes itself but when it does this, it leaves
an empty frame of itself overlapping my java frame. Any way to handle this
so the empty frame of the executable goes away?

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here, but you may be
experiencing a java window that is not repainting itself. That would leave
"artifacts" behind in the window with covering windows are removed.
