Ajax: Real Time updates without refreshing a page.

Hi,

let's say a page loads on a browser. Without refreshing the page,
multiple textboxes within the page gets real time data @ a few seconds
interval.

what is the logic behind to achieve this?

pls advise.

I understand that setInterval() is required. But where should I put
this function?
