You can't.

"forum db"? What forum? What db? This is Usenet.

And please capitalize and punctuate properly, it makes posts easier to read.

What do you think is the Good Thing for the _reader_ that comes from posting
such URLs compared to the actual ones?

I tell you what Bad Things come from them: You never know where you will
end up before you clicked; you have to trust the person who posted it that
you will be redirected to a resource that has the capacity to be useful.
Furthermore, the lifetime of the URL's validity is far more limited than
that of the URL redirected to by it (by availability of the redirection
service and availability of the URL ID in their database), so that it is
highly likely this "tiny" URL becomes meaningless in archives. And, last
but not least, it makes it harder or prevents that developers of faulty
NetNews applications recognize the bugs they have produced, and of users
of such applications to recognize that.

The bottom line is that you should not use "tiny URLs" at all.
JFTR: the URL redirected to by the above is

<URL:http://groups.google.nl/group/comp....st&q=javascript+align+alert+text&rnum=1&hl=nl>

Please quote what you are replying to.

If you want to post a followup via groups.google.com, don't use the
"Reply" link at the bottom of the article. Click on "show options" at
the top of the article, then click on the "Reply" at the bottom of the
article headers.

Yes it did.

It does, but in a round about way. There is no way to do what you are
wanting to do - format an alert box. The URL you were directed to
explains that and a possible solution whereby you have to create your
own alert box and then you can format it anyway you want.

I posted only the URL to where the URL _Janwillem_ posted redirects.
I did not check if it provided a solution to your problem, the issue
was merely that such "tiny" URLs are a Bad Thing.
