Better mobile support?

I'd love to write all my mobile apps in Ruby, but the current toolchains are somewhat lacking. Ruboto is really cool for Android development, but JRuby makes Ruby really lag, taking ten seconds to load the JRuby JAR on my Galaxy SIII. RubyMotion is cool for iOS development, but it sucks to develop with nonFOSS tools.

Can we add builtin, native support for mobile app development to Ruby? We shouldn't have to use JRuby when Android has the NDK, for example.

I guess if you ask "Do you think it's a great idea to have mobile
support in Ruby?" everybody would agree. But if you ask "Who's gonna
fund the development of that?" I am not so sure whether there will be
enough takers. I have no idea what efforts we are talking about but I
am assuming we would need some support for a specific UI toolkit built
in, plus more (deployment support etc.). That looks like a fairly large
undertaking. My 0.02 EUR.

Kind regards
