finding if file exists or not in apache webdav server and if exists what is the mime type of it....

I am using apache webdav server as fileserver for uploading and
downloading file(s). While downloading files can I check if at all
there is any file in that particular directory and if it exists what is
the mime type of that. Please let me know what may be the possible
solution....
