getting fields to line up inside a select box

is there a way to make columns line up within a select box(other than
filling in a bunch of "& nbsp;" characters?

ex.
Abc Corp Detroit, MI
General Motors Corp Lansing, MI
acme Chicago, IL

HTML displays this as:

This looks like a good candidate for a table. It wouldn't even be
"abusing" tables, as the data does seem to be tabular in nature.

S/He did say "within a select box". There is no way that I know to do
that, and even the   filling will not work for proportional fonts.

How about:

Abc Corp — Detroit, MI

I am currently doing it with a fixed font and appending the &nbsp
characters to the end, I was just hoping there was a better/easier way..

...which may or may not show up in the visitor's browser as ... fixed.
The visitor may have chosen Arial as his/her preferred monospace font.

The end? End of what? The company name, or the state code?

The end of the Company Name so that the city and State fields line up.

I don't need to worry about the Users changing their preferred fonts,
this is for a Company Intra-Net and the users do not have authority to
change IE settings.

Normally, one assumes the World Wide Web when questions are posed. In
the future, please state "for intranet only" or some such clue.

Are you claiming that the users do not have the standard IE menu?
View > Text Size... > Largest, Larger, etc. ?
...that they cannot select
Tools > Internet Options...
...or select
Start > Control Panel > Internet Options

What do you do if the company hires someone with vision impairments?

they can get them changed from the HelpDesk, they don't have authority
to do it themselves. they cannot see the view or tools menu option.
and Control Panel is not available. they have it locked down so the
only thing they can do is run the company apps.

also, I have read that page from the link, it mentions the new method
of quoting replies in google(not sure what I am supposed to get out of
that)

Well then. Hopefully that guy with the thick glasses over in the last
cubicle has had the IT department up his font size...

Before I retired, I was a senior P/A for a fair-sized marketing firm.
Among many other things we did, we had a call center. Everyone there was
allowed to adjust their monitor's font size (as were all the sales
execs, key-punch girls, managers, folks in the warehouse, etc) because
not everyone has the same vision.

I know you probably think I am over-stressing this point, but sometime
in the future, it may come in handy for you.

You were supposed to get that you *have parts of the previous post* (the
quote) included with your post. See above? Your comments, with my
comments interspersed. The (major) reason for this is that Usenet posts
do not propagate around the planet in any kind of FIFO order. If your
reply happened to show up on someone's news server before my post, the
reader would have no idea what you are talking about.

This is not a web site. This is Usenet. Very few people use Google
Groups to do Usenet; only those who don't have access to a news server,
or don't know yet.
