JDK 1.5 on Mac OS X

I have a question, and maybe someone a little more knowledgable about
the OS X system would be able to help me with this. Does anybody know
when Apple will actually place J2SE 1.5 on the Mac? I want to develop
on it, and it doesn't look to be in beta, but I can't find anything
specific on when they will release it. I'm hoping and expecting that
it might just be released once they release Tiger, but again, I haven't
read or heard anything that says that, so I really can't just assume
that.

Does anybody have any affirmative or at least some better rumors that
Java 1.5 will be on the Apple OS X platform anytime soon?

Thank you.

Here's a thing on Apple's site that makes it sound that it will at least
need Tiger.

2: Where is Java 1.5 (J2SE 5.0)?

Developer Preview 7 of J2SE 5.0 Release 1 is now available at the ADC
Download Site. The preview requires Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger Build 8A425,
also available on the ADC Download Site to seed key holders. Access to
pre-release Apple software is discussed in the ADC Frequently Asked
Questions. There are currently no plans to release J2SE 5.0 for Mac OS
X Panther or any earlier releases.

It is not clear whether JDK 1.5 will be included with the April 29 public
release of Tiger or whether it will take a bit longer for a public release.
Many people think the most likely scenario is that on April 29 all Apple
Developer Connection members (including free members) will get access to a
beta version of JDK 1.5, and after Apple fixes the most embarrassing bugs
they will let JDK 1.5 loose on the whole set of Tiger users.

JDK 1.4 on the Macintosh was a big step backwards from JDK 1.3; hopefully
the quality of 1.5 will be at least up to the standard of 1.3.

I can't give you strong figures, but my impression is that Java applets
are much more likely to hang or crash the browser than before.
