JRE in browsers

When you install a new version of the JRE, does it automatically
update Firefox, Safari, Opera, and Internet Explorer to use it? How
can you ensure your browsers are using the latest JRE?

All browsers and applications in general will look for Java JRE in the
directory specified in Java_Home environment variable...
When you install (REPLACE) new version of JRE this var is updated and
all applications point to new version of JRE, if you have multiple
versions of JRE you can change that var manually and force the apps to
use particular version...

From memory it prompts the user.

Use the deployJava.js to ensure the end user has the right minimum
version.

(And I suppose change the parameters each time a new version is
released,
to ensure it is the 'latest version').

Modern browsers look in the registry when they wake up to find out
where the current java is. You control this with the Java control
panel in the control panel.

There is nothing you need do. If you want to double check, either look
at the console (must be enabled) or run Wassup.
