making a simple database connection using sql sever and tomcat 5.0.28

Hi All,
I am pretty new to J2EE.I just wanted write a servlet which moves a
data to the MS-sql server and retrieves from the database.I am using
tomcat 5.0.28.Plz suggest me, how can update the web.xml regarding
this.Plz help..
