MIDP 2.0 devices

Alec

Greetings.

I am not sure if this is the right forum, but I would appreciate any
hints on the following. I am looking for a device which supports MIDP
2.0 (including BlueTooth Java API) and has Symbian OS installed on it.
I need this device to have a large (at least 176x208) display and be
extremely affordable (read cheap). This can be a PDA, but PDAs have
all the neat features that I don't need.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Some Symbian Nokia phones, for example the 6600, support MIDP2.0. But how
affordable do you consider this phone?
Otherwise, try to get your hand on a second-hand phone, from eBay or
something.

That latter requirement sort of defeats the prior ones. :)

Look for Nokia 7610, which has exactly those screen dimensions.

Sony Ericsson K700 has 176 x 200, but fits the requirements otherwise.

A list of MIDP 2.0 compatible devices is available at
http://www.jbenchmark.com . I don't think it's comprehensive, but it
lists a lot of devices.

I looked at all the options you recommended and they are all price
above $200.
What I am looking for is not a device for my personal use, but rather
for deploying BlueTooth-enabled applications for a variety of
customers.

In short, what I need is a relatively large (at least 178 x 206)
display (touch screen even better) with J2ME MIDP2.0 installed on it.
I can buy a low-end PDA with all these features for less than $200.
But PDAs have all these extra features, such as PalmOS, which I don't
need.

Any ides?

Thanks.

There is no device that has all that you're asking for for less than $200.
Such devices are still new and are going to be quite expensive.

Ok, it seems that I didn't have any luck finding exactly what I want.

Let me try to put it in different terms.

Does anyone know if there are consoles similar to Leap Frog which have
J2ME (MIDP 2.0 including BlueTooth JSR 82)?

What about game consoles which have Symbian OS on them?

Price is of a big importance, because I would need to buy a couple of
hundred of these.

Any recommendations?

Thanks.

Well, before I talk to manufacturers I need to find out which device
will work for me :)
I still haven't found any game consoles or a similar device with MIDP
2.0 (including JSR 82). Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I recommend Nokia devices. You can find some on www.forum.nokia.com
AFAIK for example Nokia 6230 could be device you are looking for.
