Moving folder contents on a server...

I'm sure dorayme is rabid to swallow the mv manpage whole while being
connected to the server via telnet or ssh. I don't know anything about
Cyberduck, but Fetch does the transfer quite easily via drag and drop on
the server.

I wasn't really serious, it was really a flippant answer of Mac-ies fear
of the command line.

I was serious about the Linux server, dorayme. Really cheap to slap
together and can be very useful for web site development.

It's probably a Mac-Linux thing. Or I don't have my posting language set
correctly. Frankly, I copied a purely Mac help file directly into
MT-Newswatcher. I saw the bullets. I'm surprised that your computer
didn't go up in flames. I was kinda trying for that effect on anything
but a Mac ;-)
But let's see. I'm posting as Western (ISO Latin 1) whatever the hell
that means. What I copied from the help file was purely Mac. I'm over my
head here.
Perhaps another Mac user, dorayme, Sally, will let us know what they
see. Or Mr. Korpela will definitively explain it.

Looks like funky capital 'C' with two fine cross hatches that gives it
the appearance of an 'E'...

For future reference use asterisks '*'

In order to select individual files within Fetch to move from one
directory to another.

But you have already pointed out that you can easily do it with a
mouse, why do you need to fancy pants command?

It's ok, I sensed an attempt to frighten me. But what do you
think about how I did not scream or nuthin' ... how I played it
real cool? I have kept your post and have pasted to illustrator,
blown it up real big and am working on it as a poster for a
convention that is geeky as hell. The key to success is to turn
everything thrown against you to some advantage...

I see bullets. (OT: I remember googling for free bullets when I was looking
for some fancy stuff. Turned up some very strange sites<g>.)

By the way, dorayme, you can drag files to different folders using FireFTP on
Firefox- just experimented and it works a treat. Not something I've ever
needed to do before.

In Cyberduck too... my question was more specific. But perhaps
you are aware of it and saying the specific thing (moving the
contents of a folder up a level on the server) can be done by
mouse in FireFTP. If so, I better take a look?

You can drag files one at a time from place to place, or you can
highlight selected files using the command key and drag all selected
files at once. See?
Now when I say selected files, say you have a hundred and three files in
a directory, but you only want to move sixty one of them somewhere else.
You can command click on the sixty one files and leave the others alone
when you move the sixty one somewhere else. Best I can do.

Ah... the command key... yes, ok Leo... I see, sorry that did not
immediately occur to me, I was thinking you were talking command
line text instructions...

Just btw, it has taken a while to adjust to the selective
capacities of this key, in pre X, we would just use shift. It was
simpler? I still do not quite know why Apple made it more
complicated. There is probably a simple explanation. This is the
sort of little thing I am prepared to take on trust, however
personally irritating. Which, I always hate to boast, is a fine
demonstration of my maturity.
