Need to move archived MBOX emails into Microsoft 365. Looking for recommendations from people who have actually completed the migration.

I recently migrated several historical mailboxes from Thunderbird archives into Microsoft 365 and wanted to share my experience for anyone facing the same challenge.

The archived data consisted of multiple MBOX files containing customer communications, project discussions, and support records. Since Office 365 doesn't directly recognize MBOX format, I initially experimented with Thunderbird and IMAP synchronization. While it worked on a small scale, the process became increasingly difficult as mailbox size grew.

My primary concern was finding a reliable way to import MBOX to Office 365 without losing attachments, folder hierarchy, or email metadata. After extensive testing, I chose the DRS Softech MBOX File Converter.

The migration workflow was simple. I loaded the MBOX archives, reviewed the mailbox content through the preview panel, selected Microsoft 365 as the destination, and started the migration. The software processed all folders efficiently and maintained the original mailbox structure.

What stood out most was the accuracy of the results. Emails appeared correctly inside Exchange Online, attachments remained accessible, and no folder organization was lost during the transfer.

If your goal is to migrate MBOX to Office 365 with minimal effort and maximum reliability, a professional migration solution can make a huge difference. It eliminates the complexity of manual methods and provides a much more dependable migration experience for both personal and business email archives.

I just migrated some archived MBOX files to Office 365 and my main concern was to keep all emails, attachments and folders in exact form. This seemed possible to do manually, but there was another step in the conversion that could take quite a while if you were dealing with large email archives or multiple mailboxes.

For me, the Softaken MBOX to Office 365 Migration Tool worked better because it allowed me to move the MBOX files directly into my Microsoft 365 account without having to convert them first. The original folder structure, email formatting, attachments and metadata were all maintained, so there was no time spent re-organising after the migration.

A few things I'd recommend before starting:

# Keep a backup of your MBOX files.
# Test the migration with one mailbox first.
# Make sure your Office 365 mailbox has enough available storage.
# Review a few folders after the import to confirm everything transferred correctly.

If you are moving archived emails from Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Eudora, or any other MBOX based email client, using a dedicated migration solution is worth considering. It can save time, supports bulk mailbox transfers, and helps preserve your email data without the extra complexity of manual conversion methods.
