OT: How to programmatically modify code/Seeking BCEL equivalent

Does anyone know of a tool for programmatically modifying C source
code? I want something like the Bytecode Engineering Library (BCEL) for
C. Any platform.

(I cannot argue that this is on-topic, but where else could I ask/will
someone with similar need look in the future?)
