Pincushion effect for panoramic VR viewer

E

Eelco

Hello,

I'm working on a panoramic VR viewer using AWT. The panoramic image,
made in Photoshop of multiple images stitched, still looks very flat
and unrealistic in the viewer.
I've seen some Java panoramic viewers on the Internet using some
'pincushion' effect to create a feeling of depth and it corrects some
barrel distortion in the panoramic image.

Can anybody tell me how I can get this filter/effect for my Java
Applet?

I searched the Internet for this particular filter/effect, but can't
find anything on this (also tried java.sun.com). I must be searching
with the wrong keywords.

Regards,
Eelco.

Hello all,

It's been a few days since I've posted my question, but so far didn't
get any reply. Is there nobody who can help me with this issue? Or
share his/her ideas on this? Is my question unclear or already
discussed in the past? Or am I posting in the wrong group?

You all know what I mean with this 'pincushion' effect/distortion in
these 360 viewers, right? The following URL has an Applet that
demonstrates the pincushion/barrel distortion very well.
http://www.pixaround.com/ (toggle pincushion distortion, 2D/3D view,
using <a> key)
Another Applet:
http://www.microscopyu.com/tutorials/java/aberrations/distortion/
How did they do it?

There must be some Java gurus out here who can point me in the right
direction to get this figured out?
Please, HELP !!

Eelco.
