Restricting access to web pages

1) How do you restrict access to specific web pages? I would like the main
page to be public, but offer other pages to be accessible only to specific
people. Can this be done in the web page environment?

2) What are some typical password management programs/scripts I can add to
teh web pages that will allow people to register a username and password?

Do a search for .htaccess tutorial. You could also use a database to
manage user accounts with a server-side scripting language, too.

Most webservers (such as Apache) come with built-in authentication features.
Check the manual for your server.
