Site looks differently when published

This is my first site.

Everything looks good when I preview in browser on my local machine, but
after I ftp the files to my hosting computer, it's quite a bit different.
The buttons look like text. The horizontal menu is all crammed to the left
with no background color and more ...

Any ideas what I'm missing?
