On March 29, 2006, a total eclipse of the Sun will be visible from a
few lucky parts of the Earth. We have started to gather information and
advice about this event. It is available at:

I'm sure is great news for astronomers, at least those in "a few lucky parts
of the Earth", but it has nothing to do with the purpose of this newsgroup,
which is Java programming.

Wouldn't it make more sense to post this in an astronomy newsgroup? Or at
least prefix it with an {OT] to indicate that it is off-topic?

groups" which mention the word "eclipse".

You're being funny, right? The post has nothing to do with the IDE called
Eclipse, he's talking about the astronomical event that the IDE is named
after.

That's a pretty plausible theory, in my opinion.

I don't think you can blame this on Google as much as on the user who didn't
realize that his hits had nothing to do with the solar phenomenon. It
probably never occurred to him that there was an IDE named Eclipse so he
didn't bother to verify that his hits had anything to do with natural events
like solar eclipses....

With Google the web search engine I have no problem.

With Google the /ad powered/ search engine I still have no problem.

With Google the arrogant, secretive, MS-style, would-be monopolists, I have
some severe reservations. They are already exhibiting power without
responsibility[*]. I don't want to see more of it.

This next paragraph may strike you as OTT, even paranoid -- fair enough, it
probably is[**] -- but it reflects how things look to me today.

My feeling is that their strategy is to own the (non-corporate) Net. Stealing
Usenet is hardly a major offence in the overall scheme of things, but it gets
my goat. Keep an eye on how much of the (non-corporate) world's data in held
on Google disks, under (only) Google control. My feeling is that Google are
hoping to acquire more than an acceptably small percentage. Is it possible
that they could "steal" the (non-corporate) Web in the same way as they have
stolen Usenet ? I don't know, but my hunch is that that is where they are
aiming.

Also your page doesn't work in every GM supported browser...
