Submiting a form to a modal dialog

Generaly what I am looking for is a way to submit a form to a modal
dialog and return a value back to the calling program.

Specificaly the form I'm submitting contains a file input field. The
modal dialog contains php code which will proccess the uploaded
calculate the a url to the file and return it to the calling window.
All I need to know is how to submit the form to the dialog. Any help
would be appreciated .
