WEFT font embedded problem

WEFT doesn't work. It works for very small combinations of IE and
particular fonts. In general though, it's a disappointment.

When I access your page with Firefox I can use the nav buttons to step
through a game, but I wouldn't expect to see any WEFT font. Looks fine
though.

With IE7 then I receive a message saying that it's downloading the
font, no errors, but the fonts used look identical to FF. Also the
JavaScript on the nav buttons doesn't work, which is more serious than
any font.

You should validate your page and fix the HTML errors.
Don't use href="javascript:foo()" just use the onclick="foo()" event
handler.
If you're using id attributes on elements, they must be correctly
formed and unique. You can't use numerics.
It's possible (I haven't tested) that these are what breaks the JS in
IE.

You should also try to find a redesign for your page that no longer
requires WEFT. It's a nice idea, but it's just not practical for widely
accessible web pages.

Thanks for your help
You should validate your page and fix the HTML errors.
A great part of the files are genrated by a chess program chessbase9 and
it's a bit old and doens'nt follow new conventions
So it is not possible for me to validate these pages.

But under Internet Explorer it works (although I have a yellow ! on the
status bar).
Under Firefox there are more problems.

I don't know an other way to produce characters from a font that the user
does'nt have (these are chess symbols).

I don't understand why it works localy on my computer but not through
Internent.

Thanks

Because you have the font on your computer. The rest of us don't.

No I have unistalled the font before the test of course.

Perhaps you did not succeed in uninstalling it or you have not
cleared some cache or there is magic.

It was a pleasure to see the link you gave. Nice looking.
Unfortunately it does not work well on Safari. Clicking on a
pawn, totally surprisingly, goes to another page (of thumbnails).
The use of the browser back button only gets the previous
position back, the beautiful right hand side picture by Raphael
fails to appear. It can be coaxed into appearing by repeated use
of the restore page button.

No : I use Xfonter to uninstal the font.
After that I have no figurines .
Then my webpage alone with TTFritz.ttf embedded with the file DIAGRAM0.eot I
get the figurines again.(locally)

This normal : You only have to use the arrows.

I have no access to Mac but I know these pages doen't work properly under
safari.

Thanks

The font embedding should work fine on the server. When the font file is
produced by the WEFT software, you have to specify the domain the fonts
will
be valid for. Go back carefully over the instructions. You should have no
problem.

I had created the file Diagram.EOT wiht WEFT and after moved my domain two
years ago.

I build the file again with the new domain http://www.jmrw.com/ and now it
seems to work.

Can you confirm that you see figurines now ?

Thanks a lot.

Yes, but I think you miss the main point I was making when I stated "Not
in my browser" The fundamental flaw with WEFT is it assumes the user is
a Windows user on IE.

The html and javascript files are at the beginning built by chessbase and
work only under windows and Internet Explorer.

I cannot improve this.

Neither the JavaScript nor the HTML is Windows-only or IE-only, it is
the WEFT garbage. Maybe a legend that would explain that "L"=Bishop?
