XML and Dataset

I just started learning XML and datasets and web-services.
What's the advantage of having data in xml files rathar
than querying database.

There is still room for both in nearly all meaningful applications. You
store your data primarily in a database, because this has highly optimized
tools for retrieving specific information very quickly. XML is human
readable, and can be passed around applications and systems very easily.
