I suggest something like:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3)
Gecko/20040910 Firefox/1.0

which enables a competent programmer to correctly detect it as a Gecko
browser, but tricks a naive programmer into thinking it is IE 6.

The problem with that line of thinking is that you forget that incompetent
programmers use code produced by the competent. Now some clueless author
can correctly detect your browser, and bar you from the site.

I do not believe that it is common for a designer to deliberately block a
browser that would otherwise work fine with their site (well, except maybe
for MS designers). Most of the time it is naivety: e.g. the programmer
assumes that MSIE means IE.

Why of course, any programer that uses anything from Microsoft must be
evil and work deliberately to thwart the advancement any other
technologies. I believe that is in the MS license agreement.

Neither do I. However, some sites do make a small subset of browsers the
only means of accessing the content. Their method may not be restricted to
scripting, either.

Whilst I've only experienced it a couple of times using Opera, a friend of
mine decided, much to my discontent, to switch back to IE because too many
web sites wouldn't "work" without it. It's a terrible state of affairs
when a pile of shit like IE can rise above genuinely decent browsers.

No doubt.

My site: scroll down to the "site style" form and choose "Modern 2" or
"Modern 3".

Very nice site! -- similar in concept to csszengarden.com. Thanks for the
inspiration.

BTW. Truth hurts huh?

If I would tell BS, you all would laugh your but off.

If I'm an idiot, ignore me. I can't do any harm.

The truth does not need a lawyer.

Unfortunately...

You are pathetic and your goals are at least dishonest.

Because you know that I'm right and that is hurting you, as you have so
eagerly admitted.

;)
