Hi Dave,

As for shared assembly in GAC, your webpart can freely reference it as a
normal external assembly. There is nothing to care about this assembly's
permission. However, what you need to care about is how your webpart will
be deployed in sharepoint. Sharepoint only perform permission restriction
and control over webpart. When you deploy it in web application's bin dir
or via GAC, the default permission set of them are different.
