What are the configuration and other steps needed to integrate
commercial databases like Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere into JBoss?

See the examples that came with the install.
basically:
1) put de driver jars in the lib directory of the server
(\jboss-3.2.2\server\default\lib)
2) put a datasource XML in your deploy dir
\jboss-3.2.2\server\default\deploy)
3) Declare in your application that you want to use that datasource;.
